Shaq’s ceremony consisted of a tribute video, a recording of Kobe Bryant showing his appreciation and Phil Jackson addressing the Staples Center crowd amid the chants of hope for the Zen Master’s return to the sidelines for the Lakers.

After 19 years in the NBA and a somewhat ugly divorce with the Lakers organization back in 2004, the future Hall of Fame center was shown nothing but respect in front of the crowd that loved every minute of his playing days in Los Angeles.

Along with Shaq receiving chants of MVP for the last time at the Staples Center, Kobe was able to get back to work in the second half, leading the Lakers to a much-needed win over the Dallas Mavericks. Kobe led the way as usual for Los Angeles with a triple-double, scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and four steals.

As a result of Kobe’s brilliant performance and Dwight Howard getting it done in the paint with 24 points and 12 rebounds, the Lakers were able to stay even with the Utah Jazz for the eight seed in the Western Conference, keeping the playoff hopes alive moving forward.
