Lakers Rumors & News Recap: Summer League is Over, So What’s Next?

Thursday marked the end of the summer league for the Lakers as they beat their cross-town rival the LA Clippers 75-69. Christian Eyenga led the Lakers in scoring with 22 points, a high for the team, but overall the Lakers only went 1-4 in the games. Hopefully Mike Brown was able to see some new talent and work out kinks. The summer leagues are all about learning what works and what doesn’t. Providing Nash, Gasol, and Bryant with a strong bench next season is crucial.

Speaking of bench strength, Mike Brown made a smart move adding Antwan Jamison to this upcoming season’s line up. The veteran forward averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season, and will be a powerhouse scorer, providing much needed assistance to Kobe and Steve Nash. Jamison chose to compete along side these two men for a championship in Los Angeles rather than taking more money to play elsewhere. He will be given a veteran’s minimum at $1.4 million.

Even with all this good news, I am still waiting to see what happens with Dwight Howard. Could this possible trade with the Cavs become a reality? Well, Bynum’s agent, David Lee, claims that no team has asked for permission to talk to Bynum. Strange for such a monumental trade. Teams would be foolish to not approach the Laker center, especially if this trade is to happen anytime soon. If the Cavaliers are serious about obtaining this Laker vet, they had better start playing the right cards.

When will this Howard drama ever end?

*Just a special note to all of those affected in CO after the awful shooting. Sports Blogger Jessica Ghawi, who was also known as Jessica Redfield, was one of the victims of the shooting at The Dark Knight Rises premiere. Killed only six weeks after surviving another mass shooting, a June 2 incident in Toronto’s Eaton Centre, she is a reminder that tragedy can affect anyone. My heart goes out to her and her family.
