Heading into free agency, there were concerns if the Los Angeles Lakers would be able to re-sign Pau Gasol. Despite these past difficult seasons, Gasol remains one of the biggest free agents available and the Lakers are in need of frontcourt depth with only Robert Sacre on contract. While numerous teams have expressed interest, there have been reports of the two-time champion returning if the franchise is able to land Carmelo Anthony.

With Carmelo Anthony expected to make his decision on Thursday, Gasol reportedly met with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak at the team’s practice facility last night according to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears:

Over the past 24 hours, there have been conflicting reports about Anthony’s decision. It was reported that the All-Star forward will re-sign in New York, while his agent has said that a decision has not yet been made.

If the Lakers are unable to land Anthony, Kobe Bryant spoke about the team’s Plan B and seems very confident moving forward at his basketball camp in Santa Barbara yesterday. With ample cap space, there are numerous players the team will still be able to pursue if Anthony ultimately decides to sign elsewhere.
