Lakers Rumors: Rashard Lewis Shares Mutual Interest with Lakers

With all the hype and speculation surrounding Dwight Howard over the past few days, the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers can still make some moves by signing free agents has taken a backseat. Even though the Lakers can’t sign players to any lucrative long-term contracts without sign-and-trades, Los Angeles might still be able to bring in some talent to help improve the squad before next season.

The most recent free agent to express interest in signing with the Lakers is veteran forward Rashard Lewis according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports via Hoopsworld.com:

“Lewis shares mutual interest with the HEAT, Lakers and Knicks in particular. They are all three over the cap, meaning they can only offer the mini-mid level to Lewis.”

As or right now, the Lakers ultimate goal seems to be landing Dwight Howard via trade with the Nets potentially off the table. Despite that being the case, Los Angeles may want to bring in Lewis as well to pair with Howard as the two were a successful frontcourt combo during their days together with the Orlando Magic.

With the Lakers still having the mini-mid level at their disposal, it may very well be offered to Lewis to help bolster the bench and bring in some much needed outside shooting. Lewis is nowhere near the player he was with the Seattle Super Sonics or Magic, but it’s possible that he’d be an impact player in Los Angeles as the team’s sixth man.
