According to ESPN’s Ryen Rusillo, the Lakers could land another young building block in addition to Young, while also getting rid of Steve Nash:

With this many rumors popping up, it almost seems as if the Lakers and Sixers have had to at least had preliminary discussions of some sort. This trade would almost definitely make the Lakers better in the short-term.

Carter-Williams is the reigning Rookie of the Year, and is only 22 years old. He put up excellent numbers, but the Sixers were an awful team last season and he was allowed to do whatever he wanted with little structure. Additionally, the rookie class is hailed as one of the least productive of all-time.

Young would be an excellent piece as he is a very productive player, and combining the two with Kobe Bryant makes the Lakers competitive. The thought of not having a draft pick in this draft, however, is a little worrisome.

A draft as deep as this one could yield a franchise-changing talent for the Lakers. Giving up the pick, albeit for two good young players, may be somewhat short-sighted. The Lakers are looking for a quick re-build, but must be careful about what they give up and not put the franchise in trouble down the road.
