Free agency began at 9:00 p.m. PST in Los Angeles and the Lakers have been extremely active on the phone lines. The team has already expressed interest in former Laker Jordan Farmar, as well as Chase Budinger and Chris Copeland.

The Lakers aren’t finished yet. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the Lakers are also interested in Francisco Garcia and there is mutual interest between the two parties:

Francisco Garcia was waived by the Houston Rockets this offseason in an attempt to free up cap room for Dwight Howard. In the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Garcia performed very well — averaging 10.7 points while defending Kevin Durant effectively.

The Lakers are looking for a lengthy perimeter defender and is also a 36.1 percent career three-point shooter. Francisco Garcia would be a great addition to the team at the veteran’s minimum.
