Lakers Rumors: Warriors to Offer Sign-And-Trade For Dwight Howard

The Golden State Warriors have made their latest attempt to receive the services of All-Star center Dwight Howard. It seems as though the Warriors do not feel confident enough to sign Howard outright so they have prepared a sign-and-trade offer to the Lakers that looks to be an offer that the Lakers should take a serious look at.

According to Real GM, the Warriors are prepared to offer center Andrew Bogut and either shooting guard Klay Thompson or small forward Harrison Barnes for Howard.

The Warriors  can also offer the expiring contracts of Richard Jefferson and Andris Biedrins to give the Lakers more salary cap relief.

If you look at this proposed deal this one would make the most sense to the Lakers. Obviously, the Lakers want to keep Howard, just look all over L.A., but if Dwight in fact wants to leave the Lakers this deal makes the most sense.

Andrew Bogut, although injury prone and has been inconsistent over the duration of his career, is a big body to fill paint and grab 10 rebounds a game while also blocking a couple shots. When you talk about Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes, you are talking about two up-and-coming stars in the NBA, both with tremendous athletic ability and can shoot the lights out.

The rumored deal that the Houston Rockets were going to propose to the Lakers of Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin does not really give the Lakers what they are looking for. Sure Asik plays great defense and rebounds the ball, but his offensive game needs a lot of help, and for Jeremy Lin, well we saw his production last year, thanks but no thanks.

The Lakers want Howard to stay and are begging him to stay by any way means necessary, but if he in fact does want to leave the Lakers and go somewhere else, this would be the absolute best scenario for the Lakers. This gives the Lakers a chance to get younger, more athletic and gives the Lakers another shooter to add to D’Antoni’s offense that he cherishes, which is what the Lakers desperately need moving forward.

Update 11:15 a.m.

According to RealGM.com via Twitter, the Warriors would need another piece to acquire Dwight:

Although the Warriors are a long shot to land Dwight, anything can happen from here on out with Golden State a potential dark horse to pull off a deal.

Update 12:02 p.m.

According to Ken Berger, the two teams have not yet discussed the sign and trade deal, but will plan too.
