Very few were prepared for the Los Angeles Lakers to make a move this close to the start of training camp, but the team did just that when they signed guard Wayne Ellington to a partially guaranteed deal.

Ellington has spent five seasons in the NBA, and has played on five different teams. In an interview with Lakers reporter Mike Trudell, he said that experience and knowledge is part of what he will bring to the Lakers:

Just maturity. Being able to get all of the experience. I’ve been in a lot of different situations, a lot of different teams, so you put all of that in one, I feel like it creates a pretty big piece.

Of course, while the experience is great, fans expect production on the court. Ellington feels that he be able to show off some things that people don’t know he can do this season:

I feel like I’ll be able to help a lot in the backcourt. I’ll be able to handle the ball when needed. I’ll be able to spot up and be able to shoot the jumper and show some things some people really don’t know about me. Put it on the floor a little bit, mid-range game, things like that.

If Ellington is able to bring some knockdown shooting, it would be a welcome addition to a team who lost their three best shooters percentage-wise form last season in Jordan Farmar, Jodie Meeks and Kendall Marshall.

With Xavier Henry still being hurt, Wesley Johnson possibly not panning out, and Jordan Clarkson being a rookie, Ellington provides some much needed stability on the wing.
