As arguably the two best players in the NBA today, three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant and defending NBA champion LeBron James will be battling it out throughout the prime of their careers in order to win as many championships as possible.

If last season is any indication, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat will be perennial title contenders for years to come with talented young rosters led by LeBron and Durant. Both players will almost certainly be seeing a lot of each other for the foreseeable future with many comparisons between the two players and their teams.

Not only will LeBron and Durant be constantly compared in debates over who is best player in the league, but they are also doing something unprecedented during the off-season. NBA legends of the past like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson might find a bit odd that two players that recently went head-to-head in the NBA Finals are willing work together rather than distancing themselves.

Reportedly, LeBron and Durant are working out together in the reigning NBA MVP’s hometown during the off-season according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com:

“For the second consecutive offseason the Oklahoma City Thunder star has joined the Miami Heat Most Valuable Player for a series of collaborative and grueling two-a-day workouts near James’ hometown in Akron, Ohio.”

It’s remarkable that two of the league’s premier players on arguably two of the best teams in the league are willing to work together. Usually, this isn’t a practice that is done by the league’s best as it doesn’t exactly fuel the fire on the floor the way it did with Bird and Magic back in the ‘80s.

Even though it is unorthodox, LeBron and Durant love the competitive fire during these workouts and claim to be getting better as a result. Both players have been updating their Twitter accounts (@KDTrey5, @KingJames) after working out with one another.

It’ll be interesting to see the results on the floor next season with both players definitely looking forward to facing off against one another.

The NBA Finals rematch between the Thunder and Heat is set for Christmas Day in South Beach. The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Thunder on December 7 and Heat on January 17.
