In a huge upset, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors Friday night at Staples Center, 117-97, leading for the entire 48 minutes. Stephen Curry was held scoreless from three-point range for the first time in 157 games, while collectively, the Warriors shot just 15.6% from beyond the arc.
Third-year forward Julius Randle more than held his own against another matchup with Draymond Green, leading the purple and gold with 20 points and 14 rebounds. After the game, Randle talked about how it actually feels like the Lakers are playing for something this year. D’Angelo Russell, who finished with 17 points and four assists, said the big thing is that everyone is not only buying into head coach Luke Walton’s system, but also buying into each other.
Rookie Brandon Ingram said a win like tonight, against the best team in the Western Conference, shows that the Lakers are on their way to being contenders a bit quicker than some might think. Jordan Clarkson says it feels good to finally be .500 (3-3) for the first time in his NBA career.
Plus, everyone talks about what it was like in the locker room after the big win. Apparently, Metta World Peace’s recent ‘I love basketball!’ chant is catching on big time in the locker room.
