The Los Angeles Lakers (14-55) fell to the Phoenix Suns (19-50) on Friday night, despite an entertaining fourth quarter, in which a once 19-point deficit turned into a one-point lead, driven by 30 points off the bench for Lou Williams. It was the third consecutive game led by Williams’ scoring in the second unit.

Aligning with the story line of the previous two games, the young core struggled from the get-go and had even more difficult finding the bottom of the net. D’Angelo Russell (2-10), Jordan Clarkson (2-13) and Julius Randle (1-9) finished for a combined 5-32 from the field.

After the game, head coach Byron Scott attributed the first unit’s poor performance to their lack of trust in one another and Randle agreed. Though Scott will continue to stick with the same group to start games, he will continue to finish with the group that’s playing the best basketball, even if hat means the young core on the bench.
