Magic Johnson Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary of Final All-Star Game

It’s been 20 years since Magic Johnson’s final All-Star game appearance. That game, which ironically was in Orlando (which is also where this season’s festivities are taking place), ended up being the last of 12 All-Star appearances for Johnson.

Following his sudden retirement prior to the 1991-92 season and the announcement that he had contracted the HIV virus, Johnson was still voted into the All-Star game by the fans. Johnson took advantage of the opportunity, and went home with the All-Star game MVP award.

During the game Johnson scored 25 points with nine assists and five rebounds, leading the Western Conference to a 153-113 victory over Michael Jordan, Isaiah Thomas and the Eastern Conference. It was the second time in his career (1990) where Johnson earned All-Star MVP honors.
