Metta World Peace Believes Lakers Can Succeed Without Him

Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Lakers - Game SevenWhen Metta World Peace went down with an injured meniscus in his left knee, the Lakers’ already dim playoff hopes took yet another hit. With Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol all dealing with injuries of their own, losing World Peace seemed to be the final straw.

However, World Peace believes his Lakers will be just fine even if he’s unable to play the remainder of the season.

In an interview with 95.7 The Game San Francisco with Bucher and Towny,World Peace discussed his injury and how he feels the Lakers can succeed without him.

“I think while I’m out, I think we’ll be OK. The best team is always going to win, the best team on any given night.”

World Peace went on to say that the team has been (relatively) successful dealing with injuries this season, and it’s because of that he thinks the Lakers will still manage to reach the postseason, even without Metta in the lineup.

“I think that anytime that one of the big five is out, when Steve was out, we won a couple games. When Kobe was out, we won. When Pau was out, we won. With the exception of Dwight — Dwight was probably one of the only players where, when he was out, we couldn’t really sustain it.”

With the Lakers currently out of the playoff picture and possessing one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league, reaching the playoffs is certainly going to be a difficult task. World Peace is expected to miss at least the rest of the regular season, and even if the Lakers do reach the playoffs it’s uncertain whether or not he will be able to get back on the court.

Los Angeles will be back in action, without World Peace, Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks.
