According to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters general manager Mitch Kupchak expects the Lakers to be ‘active participants’ in free agency this summer:

Despite expecting to be active, Kupchak also noted that the Lakers won’t just use their cap space just to use it via Winters:

There are a lot of options for the Lakers in this free agency class at a number of positions. Point guards Rajon Rondo and Goran Dragic have been mentioned on numerous occasions as have big men such as Kevin Love, Greg Monroe and LaMarcus Aldridge.

It is also important to note that Kupchak believes the Lakers won’t spend money just because they have it. The Lakers don’t want to find themselves in a position where they have no cap space to improve, but still aren’t championship contenders.
