NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Houston RocketsThe Los Angeles Lakers have one goal in mind once the free agency period begins, and that is to re-sign Dwight Howard. However, there are holes in the roster that must be filled, and the front office needs to do what it takes to put a title contending team on the court.

During last season’s injury filled season, the Lakers saw the emergence of Earl Clark as a reliable player both in the starting lineup and off the bench. Considered a throw-in in the Dwight Howard trade, Clark produced on both ends of the court for the Lakers and was the best young player on the roster.

The Lakers need to add more youth to the lineup moving forward and keeping someone like Clark will surely help their cause. Clark will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and Sporting News writes that the Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping to bring him onto the team.

Cleveland’s top priority in free agency will be bolstering the power forward spot, where Speights’ price will be too high. One of their top targets to fill the spot, a source said, is the Lakers’ Earl Clark, who played well last year (7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds) after a stint in China and would be interested in signing with Cleveland. Clark earned $1.2 million last year.

The Cavaliers has amassed great young talent as it looks to rebuild in the post-LeBron James era. Cleveland has one of the best point guards in the league in Kyrie Irving and with the number one pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, it looks to make a push for the postseason next year.
