NBA News: Dallas Mavericks Sign Former Laker Devin Ebanks

When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Devin Ebanks in 2010, he immediately drew comparisons to Trevor Ariza. While Phil Jackson never played rookies, Mike Brown gave Ebanks the chance to start in his second season, but he was eventually benched.

After Ebanks was arrested on suspicion of DUI earlier this past season, it signaled the end of his career with the Lakers. The team decided to not re-sign him, but one team does see potential in the third-year forward out of  West Virginia.

According to Alex Kennedy, the Dallas Mavericks have signed Devin Ebanks today:

This is the third Lakers player the Mavericks have signed in as many years, and all have not worked for Dallas. In 2011, the Mavericks traded for Lamar Odom, where his contract was eventually bought out by the team before the end of the regular season. Last year, Derek Fisher signed with the team and was later released because of personal issues.

It will be interesting to see if Ebanks will be part of the rotation. He has the potential to be a solid defender in the NBA, but doesn’t have the work ethic and determination to achieve his true potential. In three seasons with the Lakers, Ebanks averaged 3.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.3 steals.
