Nba News: Derrick Rose Agrees To Join Cleveland Cavaliers

Even though the Los Angeles Lakers had a positive meeting with free agent point guard Derrick Rose, it had started to become more likely that he would head to Cleveland to join the Cavaliers as opposed to L.A.

It came out earlier today that Rose would meet with the Cavs and was leaning towards joining them. Now that is pretty much a done deal as Shams Charania of The Vertical reports that Rose has committed to sign with the Cavaliers:

With Kyrie Irving likely on his way out of Cleveland as he has reportedly demanded a trade, Rose has the potential to start next to LeBron James. Being in Cleveland, on a team that will again be one of the favorites to make the NBA Finals, likely outweighed what the Lakers could offer.

L.A saw Rose as a backup and veteran mentor to rookie Lonzo Ball. Though he would’ve seen plenty of court time, Rose has the chance to do more on a bigger stage in Cleveland.

The Lakers will now move on to their other options for a veteran backup. Ian Clark met with the team last week and the Lakers like the fact that he has championship experience from his last two seasons with the Golden State Warriors. That could prove valuable on a young team like the Lakers. He also has a familiarity with head coach Luke Walton.

Tyler Ennis is another potential option for the Lakers as he shined down the stretch of last season with the team. He showed off impressive shooting and passing and was a reliable player overall. Other veteran options for the Lakers include Deron Williams, Rodney Stuckey, and Brandon Jennings.
