tylawsonThe injury bug is sweeping the NBA, and is hurting many of the teams in the Western Conference playoffs.

The Los Angeles Lakers just found out that star Kobe Bryant has suffered a bone spur in his left foot, just days after returning from his severe ankle sprain. Before that setback for the Lakers, the team was without Pau Gasol who missed an extended period of time due to a right foot injury.

Now the Denver Nuggets, a legitimate contender in the West, will be without one of their main stars. Pro Basketball Talk writes that Ty Lawson has a plantar fascia tear in his right heel and may be sidelined for quite some time.

He has a plantar fascia tear in right heel, the team announced. He will not play against Brooklyn on Friday and is officially listed as day-to-day.

A torn plantar fascia is what had Pau Gasol had and missed six weeks because of. There are degrees of tears, so the severity of the Lawson injury certainly could be less.

Lawson has dealt with heel injuries before and this is certainly bad new for the Nuggets. A tear is a very serious matter and if Gasol’s recovery process can help predict anything, Lawson may be out for a while.

Gasol went through the same injury and he just back on the court after going down in February. This is a major blow for the Nuggets as they were becoming one of the toughest teams to play in the Western Conference. Winning championships in this league depends on a lot of things, but one injury can easily make or break a team’s chance of hoisting the trophy.
