The Phoenix Suns have been engaged in discussions with numerous teams regarding point guard Goran Dragic. While the team hoped to keep him around, Dragic made it clear that he did not want to remain in Phoenix and would leave after the season if he was not dealt.

Many teams were mentioned, but the Suns have agreed to deal Dragic to the Miami Heat according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:

The Heat were one of the teams that Dragic had listed as preferred destinations which is bad news for the Los Angeles Lakers. The team’s chances of signing Dragic in free agency lessens significantly if he likes what he experiences in Miami this season.

It is currently unclear what the Heat have agreed to give up in exchange for Dragic, but his acquisition definitely changes the outlook on their season as they try to make a run in a wide-open Eastern Conference.

With Reggie Jackson also being dealt at the trade deadline to the Detroit Pistons, the Lakers free agency options at point guard could be dwindling. The team had interest in Dragic, but simply didn’t have the assets to pull off a deal. At this point, the Lakers’ best bet at a point guard is either through draft or free agency.
