Mitch KupchakIt’s been a busy month for the Phoenix Suns, who have hired a new general manager and head coach in the past three weeks. After molding the team the way he wants, new general manager Ryan McDonough hired two “master evaluators”, Pat Connelly and former Lakers right-hand man Ronnie Lester.

Connelly spent seven seasons working with the Washington Wizards while Lester was with the Lakers for over 20 years, including 10 as Mitch Kupchak’s go-to guy.

After being passed over for the Suns general manager job in 2010, Lester joins the Suns as a scout and someone who can evaluate college players and how their game translates to the NBA.

With six potential first-round picks in the next three years, Lester’s knowledge and ability to scout talent will be vital to the Suns as they try and undergo a rebuilding process.

Lester was let go by the Lakers in 2011 ahead of the NBA lockout as the team let go of 20 employees as the team looked to shed payroll during that time.
