Welcome back to our weekly rookie rankings. It’s gearing down towards the end of the season and it has become very clear who this year’s top rookies are. They have one last push to make a good impression to voters. Remember to check back with us every week as when rank this year’s rookie class.
1. Dario Saric, Forward, Philadelphia 76ers
Saric’s play has gotten better and better since Joel Embiid was shut down for the rest of the season. In the month of March he is averaging 20.2 points, seven rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. What also should be noted is that he has been efficient shooting the ball. Even though it is difficult to put him ahead of Embiid in the Rookie of the Year race, he has earned it.
2. Malcolm Brogdon, Guard, Milwaukee Bucks
Brogdon has been the definition of efficient this season. Last week against the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls he had back-to-back 14-point games. He has been an important piece for a team fighting to make the playoffs. Among all rookies he ranks 10th in shooting, third in three-point shooting, and first in assists. If the Bucks do make the playoffs, Brogdon will be a big reason why and will need him to play well to advance.
3. Joel Embiid, Center, Philadelphia 76ers
One can only imagine the numbers Embiid could have put up if he was healthy for the entire season. It was difficult to drop him a couple of spots, but both Saric and Brogdon have raised their level of play over the last few weeks to finally surpass Embiid. Hopefully when he returns next season he continues where he left off.
4. Marquese Chriss, Forward, Phoenix Suns
In addition to his improved play on the offensive end, Chriss has stepped up his play on the defensive end recently. Over the last ten games he’s averaging 1.5 blocks and 6.9 rebounds per game. Last week against the Brooklyn Nets he finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. The combination of Chriss and Devin Booker has Suns fans excited for the future.
5. Brandon Ingram, Forward, Los Angeles Lakers
Tendonitis sidelined him for the Lakers’ last two games, but he has enjoyed a nice month of March. He is averaging 14.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game during that time. His recent play gives fans and his team a glimpse of the type of player he can become. If he can continue to play the way he has, he will enter the offseason with a lot of confidence.
