Back in the summer of 2013, the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a move that no one saw coming. Jordan Farmar signed a one-year deal with the team after choosing to leave a lucrative situation he had going playing overseas.

Unfortunately, Farmar played on a team that won only 27 games and was looking to make a major splash in free agency. The Lakers almost were able to make that splash by courting superstar Carmelo Anthony, but ultimately fell short and as a result lost out on the opportunity to bring back players like Farmar that were interested in staying in Los Angeles.

With the Lakers waiting on Anthony’s decision, Farmar chose to explore his options in free agency landing with the Los Angeles Clippers across the hall. Despite seemingly being a good fit as a backup for Chris Paul, things didn’t work and as a result he was recently bought out by the team.

Farmar will clear waivers on Sunday and the Cleveland Cavaliers have expressed interest in signing the two-time NBA champion, according to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have inquired about recently-waived backup point guard Jordan Farmar, a league source told Northeast Ohio Media Group.

The dialogue was explained as a “feeling-out” process. Farmar, 28, was bought out of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. He clears waivers on Sunday. …

He’s very much still a quality backup. He also has ties with Cavaliers coach David Blatt, playing for Blatt in 2011 with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Cavaliers are currently only one game above .500 at 21-20 after beating the Lakers and Clippers on back-to-back nights at the Staples Center. LeBron James and company have struggled to live up to expectations this season and as a result, the team has started to make moves to help right the ship.

Farmar would be a welcome addition to the Cavaliers backcourt as a viable backup for point guard Kyrie Irving. The Lakers could also use a player of Farmar’s caliber considering their current situation at the point guard position, but have yet to show interest in another reunion.
