The team announced over the weekend that interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo wouldn’t return to the sidelines and that general manager Billy King would start an immediate search.

Naturally, former Lakers coach Phil Jackson was a logical choice to fill the vacancy and it was reported that the Nets reached out to Jackson yesterday. However, Tim Bontemps of the New York Post is reporting this afternoon that Jackson won’t be making Brooklyn his new home:

A league source told The Post that Jackson is not looking to coach. The Nets had contacted Jackson in order to gauge his interest in possibly returning to the sidelines and taking over their team.

After their first season in Brooklyn didn’t go as they hoped, King and owner Mikhail Prokhorov are looking to make a splash in changing the culture around the Nets. Prokhorov and Jackson have had talks in the past, but it seems like the feeling wasn’t mutual.

In the report, it sounds like Jackson isn’t looking to coach, rather hoping to land an executive role as someone who makes personnel decisions. Recently, Jackson agreed to become a consultant for the Detroit Pistons as they search for a new head coach.

Update: Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports confirmed the New York Post report.
