The Los Angeles Lakers’ worst fears about Paul George’s immediate future may be coming true. It appears that the Boston Celtics are in trade discussions with the Indiana Pacers and talks have started to get serious.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, trade talks between the Pacers and Celtics have kicked into high gear as the NBA Draft gets underway:

The Celtics have always been considered a threat to acquire George with Boston possessing numerous assets in order to make an intriguing trade proposal to the Pacers.

Although talks have become serious with Boston being a legitimate contender to land the superstar forward, it appears the two sides are still far apart on a deal, according to Wojnarowski:

It’ll be interesting to see how talks progress between these two playoff teams in the Eastern Conference with the Celtics hoping to pair Isaiah Thomas with another star in Boston. George, however, has let it be known that no matter he’ll be taking his talents to Los Angeles once he’s a free agent next summer.

George’s insistence on being a one-year rental for the team that trades for him this summer has made trade talks tricky for Indiana. The Los Angeles native wants to be a Laker when it is all said and done, but the Celtics may be willing to take the risk in trading for him in the meantime.
