Only five games remain in a forgettable season for the Los Angeles Lakers with the team continuing to deal with injuries on a daily basis. Although Nick Young has been arguably one of the best players on the team this season, the final stretch of the season has been rough for the sixth man.

Young has dealt with knee and ankle injuries over the past few weeks that have threatened to end his season. Despite the fact that Young would likely be on the shelf in different circumstances, the veteran is trying to earn a new contract with the Lakers or with another team next season.

According to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters, Young plans to continue playing through his injuries to finish out the season:

Young is one of the few players on the Lakers roster that is under contract for next season. Young has a player option on his two-year deal that will pay him $1.2 million next season.

All indications point to Young opting out of his deal in order to receive more lucrative offers this summer. Young wants to return to the Lakers, but knows he’ll be able to receive much more lucrative contract offers in free agency.

Young is averaging just over 17 points a game this season while 42 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc.
