The losses continue to pile up for the Los Angeles Lakers after the team was unable to get the best of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at the Staples Center.
As a result of the loss, the Lakers have now dropped 10 of their last 11 games and are about to embark on the longest road trip of the season.
After the falling to the Cavs, Nick Young spoke to the media in the locker room. Although Young was clearly unhappy after suffering yet another loss, the veteran still expressed pride in playing in a Lakers uniform according to ESPN.com:
“This is hard,” said Young, who missed a potential tying 3-pointer with 10 seconds left. “We’re losing, and we’re losing players daily. It’s frustrating, but we’ve still got to get up and play basketball. Nobody wants to get embarrassed. You’ve got to still take pride in that Lakers uniform.”
As the season continues to head into a downward spiral, the speculation will start to heat up about Young’s future and if he wants to return to Los Angeles for a second season. Although Young clearly takes pride in wearing the purple and gold, the veteran journeyman has a player option to return for $1.2 million next season, essentially controlling his own fate.
Obviously, with the way Young has been putting up solid numbers in his first year with the Lakers, the Sixth Man of the Year candidate will likely receive lucrative offers in the off-season. Unless the Lakers attempt to sign him to a long-term deal, Young may simply bolt in the summer for a better offer elsewhere.
In seven seasons in the NBA, Young has played for four different teams. In fact, Young has bounced around quite a bit over the last three seasons playing for Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and the Lakers in that span.
