Oscar Robertson: Kobe passed him in points, but averaging a triple double for a season is a different story

The Bucks got so good they reached the Finals that very same year and decimated the Baltimore Bullets 4-0. They went all the way to the Finals again in 1974, where they lost dramatically to Dave Cowens’ Celtics in 7 games.

It is fitting to see the figure of Robertson crossing paths with the Black Mamba now that Kobe has transmuted his game into an all around bonanza, for Oscar Robertson epitomizes the modern guard, able to pass, shoot and run the floor equally smartly. Watching old tape of The Big O is not hard to spot the same hesitation moves, fake pump shooter, smart pass following a double team or a hard defense which characterize Bryant’s game today.

It is only natural too to see Kobe’s name up there with the legends of basketball, where he belongs. And you can bet he is going nowhere but up.
