Along with getting back to form on the basketball floor, Spanish forward Pau Gasol is also doing work off the court. It is no secret that if Gasol wasn’t going to be a professional basketball player that he would’ve pursued a career in medicine. The two-time NBA champion has great respected and admiration for this field and might even consider making it a career after he is done in the NBA.

On March 26, Pau Gasol officially partnered with a Barcelona-based global health care company called Grifols. This partnership was in an effort to bring a new technology to light here in Los Angeles. Grifols may be based in Gasol’s native country of Spain, but there is a U.S. headquarters in L.A. and with this new partnership Gasol has helped bring the new technology of the Phocus Rx system to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

This new technology will help automate quality control oversight for the preparation of pediatric medications. Pau Gasol talked about his new partnership via PRNewswire.com:

“It’s a win-win-win for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, for Grifols and for patient and families,” said Gasol.

“Just as teamwork is critical in sports, I think it is essential to form partnerships between businesses, nonprofits and government agencies,” said Gasol. “Pairing Grifols with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles seemed like a natural fit, and I was happy to bridge the connection.”

So not only has Pau Gasol made a great contribution to the Los Angeles Lakers during his time with the storied NBA franchise by helping the team win two NBA titles, but he continues to make an impression off the court in the world of medicine. It would be safe to say that there will be more to come from Gasol in the near future as he will consider a what to do after basketball.
