Ryan Kelly Prepared For A Tough Byron Scott Training Camp

No one is quite sure what to expect from second year forward Ryan Kelly. He had a very solid season last year, especially for a rookie second-round pick. But the Lakers added Ed Davis, Carlos Boozer, and Julius Randle this off-season to a returning Jordan Hill and Robert Sacre, giving the team a very deep frontcourt.

Kelly has been working out this summer to get into shape, and as he revealed in an interview with Time Warner Cable SportsNet, he will need to be in the best of shape for a Byron Scott training camp:

I’ve heard they’re pretty tough, through the grapevine. I heard there are normally trash cans on each side of the floor in case anyone has the chance to have any upset stomachs. But I’m excited […] I’ll be ready for it and use these last few weeks to get fully up to speed.

The Lakers are facing very low expectations as ESPN predicted the Lakers to finish 12th in the Western Conference, something Kelly expects the Lakers to use as motivation:

For one, nobody’s seen us as a group, this is a whole new group. And that’s their job to try and make predictions, we certainly don’t believe that and that’ll be something we use to prove them wrong.

Kelly will be facing an uphill battle to get consistent minutes in this deep frontcourt, much like the Lakers will be facing an uphill battle to make the playoffs in the extremely formidable Western Conference.

Kelly has shown that he is working hard this off-season. If he can build on his rookie season, Kelly could become one of the biggest surprises of this season.
