The Dwight Howard saga might be dominating the headlines throughout the NBA over the past couple of weeks with the Los Angeles Lakers heavily involved in a potential blockbuster trade, but it appears that the Lakers are no longer waiting for the trade to go down before making moves in free agency.

There’s been plenty of names thrown around in Los Angeles as potential free agent targets for the Lakers since the start of the free agency on July 1.

Of the players rumored to be linked to the Lakers, veteran forward Antawn Jamison is being reported as possibly the first to sign with the Lakers according to David Aldridge of NBA.com via Twitter:

Over the past week or so, Grant Hill was projected to be the first free agent signing for the Lakers as he expressed serious interest in signing with the team after being recruited by Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant. Apparently, Jamison may be the first to head to Los Angeles after narrowing down his search down to the Charlotte Bobcats and the Lakers.

There’s been no official report of Jamison signing with the Lakers, but it appears that deal is close to being done.
