‘Big Game’ James Worthy had a chance to catch up with Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters at the Time Warner Cable SportsNet debut. As a seven-time NBA All-Star and three-time NBA champion, Worthy has had plenty of experience with having to adapt and develop chemistry amongst teammates that were once opponents.

He joked about playing against and then alongside Mychal Thompson with the ’85 and ’87 Lakers, respectively.

“Mychal Thompson wasn’t that good when we played against him… We made Mychal Thompson when he came here and we gave him two championships.”

On a more serious note, Worthy admitted that Thompson was “one of those players where you hate to play against him, but love to have him on your team,” which many could relate to the revamped Lakers roster.

Building chemistry has been a sought after storyline in the Lakers off-season, but Worthy does not seem to be worried.

“You adapt. Most of the time you know these guys since high school…It’s not like it’s something new. It’s an easy adapt. Kobe’s known Dwight for many years.”

During the interview, Magic Johnson embraces James Worthy, as he proudly says something I’ll never forget.

“This is championships, championships and more championships right here baby.”

I can’t help but wonder if the next time I hear those words exchanged, it will be between two more Lakers legends added to the books, Kobe and Dwight.
