One of the biggest questions surrounding the team right now is who the next coach will be. The Lakers are taking their time with the process to make sure they get this selection right.
While Mitch Kupchak has said that Kobe Bryant’s opinion won’t matter in the head coach selection, Bryant gave his opinion on why the search is taking so long:
That’s a very, very tough call to make because unfortunately there are very few great coaches out there. I don’t know why that is, but there are very few great coaches left. So it’s a very, very short list. We’re really going to take our time and try to pick the right person.
Favorites have emerged during this round of interviews, but Bryant is pretty spot on in his assessment. A great coach can be the difference between a playoff team and a championship team and there are very few like that who are available.
