The Los Angeles Lakers were coming off a loss in which they scored just 74 points against the Houston Rockets and shooting guard Kobe Bryant made sure they would put up more than that.

Bryant went off and dropped 62 points on the Dallas Mavericks in just three quarters of play. He personally outscored the Mavericks 62-61 before sitting out the fourth quarter in an eventual 112-90 victory. The Laker guard was 18-of-31 from the field, including 4-of-10 from three-point range. He made 22-of-25 free throws in 33 minutes of play.

The then 27-year-old started off with 15 points in the first nine minutes of the game, along with five rebounds. He proceeded to score 17 in the second quarter, but saved his best for the third quarter. Bryant broke a franchise record for points in a quarter when he scored 30 on 7-of-12 shooting. He fell three points shy of the NBA record and set a new Staples Center record for points in a game.
