During Tuesday night’s Lakers vs. Utah Jazz exhibition game (a 34-point loss), the Detroit Tigers were also playing the New York Yankees in the the AL Championship Series. With all the drama swarming around A-Rod being taken out of the line-up, Kobe Bryant had some interesting advice to give to long time friend, Alex Rodriguez.

“We’re different, but he’s one of the best to ever play. Period. I think really the difference is that sometimes he forgets he’s the best…where, I don’t….I think sometimes he kind of forgets that and wants to try to do the right thing all the time. Which is the right team attitude to have. But other times you really have to put your head down and say, ‘Hell with it’ and just do your thing. “

When asked about how exactly Kobe thinks he has acquired his own elite mentality, he gave the media a candid, surprising, and relatable response.

“I grew up in a family full of a-holes…they just talk about you like a dog, it’s just constant berating…it’s just the environment I grew up in.”

Kobe’s no stranger to speaking his mind, as just last week he spent some time ripping former teammate Smush Parker.
