The Los Angeles Lakers put on an offensive clinic during the third quarter of their game against the New York Knicks. The team scored a franchise record 51 points in the quarter, including six three-pointers and one four-point play. Some may be surprised that a unit led by Nick Young and Xavier Henry and not Laker greats such as Magic, Kareem, Shaq, or Kobe set the franchise record. The Lakers former high for points in a quarter was 49 twice, with the latest coming in 1972.

The Lakers started the game out scoreless in the first four minutes and only managed 14 first quarter points. The offense picked up in the second quarter as the team scored 36 points, but the Lakers exploded out of halftime. The bench was the main spark behind the scoring as they scored 82 of the Lakers 127 points, including 20 from Nick Young and 22 from Xavier Henry. At one point, Young and Henry scored 37 straight points for the Lakers.
