Former Kentucky star Rex Chapman created quite the controversy before the national championship game between his alma mater and UConn on Monday night. Chapman took to Twitter and said that current Wildcats head coach, John Calipari, would be coaching the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

With a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Mike D’Antoni, a lot of people considered Chapman’s tweet about Calipari heading to Los Angeles as “a done deal” as a possibility.

Shortly after Chapman’s comments were picked up by seemingly every media outlet in the country, the Lakers denied the rumor while Calipari dismissed after losing to the Huskies.

On Tuesday, Chapman made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show (for the full video interview, click here) to talk about the comments he made about Calipari and the Lakers saying the following:

“I treat Twitter like I’m talking to my friends,” Chapman told Patrick. “I’m not a journalist, [I] never pretend to be. I interact with people. I’m not gonna refrain from giving information that I hear just because it might upset some people.”

Although it was thought that Chapman would simply clear the air on the Dan Patrick Show, it seems as though he made it that much more confusing. Chapman admits that he heard the Calipari-to-Lakers rumor from two very good sources.

Only time will tell if Chapman was on to something with his comments about Calipari replacing D’Antoni next season. All indications following the rumor seem to suggest that there’s nothing to it.

As for D’Antoni, the current Lakers coach has admitted that the rumor doesn’t bother him and it is more likely to bother Calipari. D’Antoni continues to take the approach of simply seeing what happens when the dust settles this summer.
