The Los Angeles Lakers held Day 2 of Summer League practice at the Toyota Sports Center on Tuesday morning. While the focus of Day 1 mostly centered around D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle, chatter about Robert Upshaw clearly took center stage this afternoon.

Upshaw was projected by many to get drafted in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft, despite his known off the court issues, which resulted in him being dismissed mid-season by two college programs. Upshaw was then flagged at the NBA Combine for a heart issue and his draft stock eventually dropped entirely off the draft board. Upshaw has since been cleared by doctors and the Lakers have signed him to their NBA Summer League roster.

Upshaw, known for his size and mobility, measured a legit 7’0″ in shoes at the NBA Draft combine (6’10.75 without). After his second day of practice with the Lakers, Upshaw said he definitely plans to make an NBA regular season roster and hopes it’s the Lakers. Upshaw did admit, however, that he is nowhere near the basketball shape that he knows he needs to be in.
