Kobe Bryant Passes Shaquille O’Neal on All-Time Scoring List

Kobe Bryant came into tonight’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a total of 28,573 career points, and needed only 24 points to pass former teammate Shaquille O’Neal for fifth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Kobe and O’Neal formed perhaps the greatest duo in recent memory and they found a way to dominate the early years of the 2000s. The Lakers were fortunate enough to win three straight championships and now the two all-time greats will be side-by-side on the all-time list.

Shaquille O’Neal was considered the best player of the championship teams, but now his former teammate has the bragging bragging rights. Bryant is now one spot above O’Neal and he still has a lot of climbing left to do; he is 2,846 points away from Wilt Chamberlain for fourth all-time and 9,814 from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most career points in NBA History.

What made the passing even more special for Kobe was the fact that he did it in his hometown Philadelphia. The city has not appreciated Kobe and his work, but even they had to respect what he has accomplished so far in his career.
