Appearing on the Max and Marcellus show on ESPN 710 Radio, Lakers forward Antawn Jamison was relieved to make the playoffs and looking forward to the showdown with the Spurs:

“It’s good that we were able to pull out two games that we needed to win even though they were at home. Without Kobe, it says a lot about us and gives us confidence to do the things we know we’re capable of doing.”

“Playing San Antonio there the one organization that knows how to turn on the switch. It’s more of a mental series playing an older team that’s been there since they know how to make adjustments.”

In the past two games without Bryant, Jamison is averaging 15.5 points and grabbing five rebounds in helping the Lakers beat the Spurs and Rockets. Jamison has played the latter part of the season with an injured right wrist, but with the season on the line he’s played through the injury.

Jamison was asked about how Dwight Howard has responded to Kobe’s injury:

“He’s been saying all year long that he wants to be the man and should’ve got more opportunities offensively. With Kobe Braynt out it’s pretty much what you wished for and I’ve been impressed with the way he’s stepped up and taken the challenge with all eyes on him”.

Since Kobe went down with his season-ending injury, Howard has responded by dominating on the defensive end and becoming a reliable option on offense as well.

Jamison’s role shouldn’t change during the playoffs as he will go as far as his wrist can take him. While the Lakers might lack star-power without Kobe and Steve Nash, Jamison will be relied upon for his scoring and leadership.
