The Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers have always been closely linked as the two longest tenured L.A. sports franchises. Every season, the Dodgers hold a Lakers Night with a member of the team throwing out the first pitch and rookie Cameron Carr was originally scheduled to do so alongside new big man Walker Kessler.
However, Carr was unable to attend that night, leaving Kessler to handle duties on his own. But the rookie would still get his chance to throw out that first pitch as he did so on Tuesday night prior to the Dodgers’ 7-0 victory over the San Diego Padres:

Carr went with the safe route, doing a softer toss and making sure the pitch not only made it to home plate, but also came in over the plate for a strike. It was actually a very similar toss as that of Kessler’s and neither is in any danger to wind up on the all-time blooper reels of worst celebrity first pitches. It was also great to see Carr’s father, former NBA player Chris Carr, able to take in and enjoy the experience with his son.
Perhaps Carr’s pitch inspired the Dodgers as they dominated the Padres for their fifth consecutive victory and seventh in their last eight games. The two-time defending World Series Champions are ending the season very well as they gear up for the postseason, which is just a week away as they try and win their third straight championship.
Meanwhile, Carr and the Lakers are just gearing up for the start of basketball season as training camp is just days away. Carr is one of many new faces on this Lakers team that will be looking to prove they can hang with the elite squads in the Western Conference. Carr impressed during his Summer League stint and will be battling for a rotation spot this year and if the promising wing can contribute, he will give the Lakers a boost on both ends of the floor.
Lakers’ Collin Sexton pleased with shooting improvement
Another new face who will play a big role for the Lakers this season is point guard Collin Sexton. When he entered the league, there were questions about his ability to be a consistent 3-point shooter, but he has silenced those doubts and is very happy about how much he has improved.
