Luka Doncic has had to go through a lot of changes the last few years since shockingly being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Shortly after that, Jeanie and the Buss family announced they would be selling their majority ownership stake in the team to Mark Walter, who quickly built a strong relationship with Doncic. Now, more change is coming to the Lakers as Walter is selling the team to businessmen Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for a record $12.5 billion valuation, which is $2.5 billion more than he paid a year ago.

With a new ownership group taking over once again, Doncic took to social media to express his support for Iger, Kushner and the Lakers organization as a whole:

Being a Laker means everything to me, and I’m excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA. I’ve gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise. I look forward to…

With LeBron James departing in free agency this offseason, Doncic is the unquestioned face of the Lakers franchise going forward. It remains to be seen if Walter and the Lakers kept him in the loop during this sale, but the important thing is that he remains committed to the franchise moving forward.

If the Lakers are going to get back to the franchise they once were, competing for championships annually, then Doncic will be the biggest reason for that. Because of that, it’s crucial for the organization to keep him happy. This will now be the fifth different ownership group Doncic has played for going into his ninth NBA season.

While the plan was for him to work in lockstep with Walter for the next decade, things are obviously changing and now it will be Iger and Kushner tasked with returning the Lakers to glory.

Luka Doncic hosting Lakers for minicamp in Slovenia

With training camp just a few weeks away, Doncic’s current focus is on leading the Lakers and getting his team ready for the 2026-27 season.

In order to do that, he will be hosting the entire roster for a minicamp in Slovenia later this month. That will allow the new-look Lakers to bond and build chemistry both on and off the court to get ready for the year ahead.
