With the recent reports that Dwight Howard is unlikely to stay with the Lakers, amid rumors of Houston and Dallas being the favorites, what is the Lakers back-up plan? With the Lakers tricky financial situation, the new collective bargaining agreement restricts what the Lakers can and cannot do. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak says that although Plan A is surely better than Plan B, whether or not Dwight signs with the Lakers will not necessarily affect what the Lakers can do to improve the team.

“Because of our projected financial situation there’s no way for us to add a player onto the team, other than than using what they call the mini-mid or the minimum salary for a player, so whether Dwight’s here or he’s not – what we can do to improve the team remains the same.”

From a monetary standpoint the Lakers have the best pitch for Dwight Howard, but will that be enough? If it’s not, don’t expect the Lakers to be making any made-for-Hollywood additions. Check out what Mitch Kupchak had to say about the plan if the Lakers are unable to re-sign Dwight, and don’t forget to subscribe to our Lakers Nation YouTube Channel!
