Lakers coach Phil Jackson has never been shy when it comes to creating controversy. After his remarks earlier this week concerning the Miami Heat and their coaching situation he received ample amounts of criticism from the media and current Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy.

When asked his opinion on the Heat and their continued struggles, Jackson stated the situation may evolve and turn into the ‘Van Gundy thing all over again.’

After Van Gundy claimed Jackson had no knowledge of the situation and therefore no right to comment on it, Jackson apologized today for his remarks. Sort of. After his apology he took one last jab at Van Gundy and the Heat. Jackson made several comments regarding current Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and his job security if Miami continues to struggle.

Jackson is certainly the odd man out in the NBA coaching fraternity, and comments like these aren’t going to make him any more popular. One thing we know about Jackson, however, is that popularity isn’t his goal when he speaks to the media.
