The Ball family has taken the world by storm over the last year with father LaVar making headlines everywhere for some of his outlandish statements. Meanwhile Lonzo Ball was the second overall pick of the Los Angeles Lakers and looks to lead the team into a new era of the franchise.

The intrigue surrounding the family has led to Facebook green-lighting a reality series on the family. This has led to some comparing the Ball family to another family famous on reality television, the Kardashians. These comparisons do not sit well with LaVar however, as he told TMZ Sports:

“I ain’t no Kardashian, I ain’t Kris Jenner. We the Balls, welcome to the Ball era […] I don’t like them, I don’t dislike them. Kardashians are Kardashians.” LaVar Ball said. “We’re separate. We’re ball players.”

The Kardashian family are some of the most popular figures in pop culture as they have turned their family into a brand, something the Ball family has also done with the Big Baller Brand. In some ways the comparisons make sense, but as LaVar pointed out, the Ball family are basketball players first and foremost.

Lonzo is already making waves with the Lakers in Summer League. Though he has been less than stellar shooting the ball, he is already making an impact with his passing ability and notched a triple-double in the Lakers’ second game. Of the summer.

Lonzo’s younger brothers will also still have plenty on their plate as LiAngelo is set to begin his freshman season at UCLA while the youngest, LaMelo, is a junior at Chino Hills high school and one of the top prospects in his class.

The reality show focused on the Ball family will be one to watch and while LaVar may not like the comparisons to the Kardashians, they will keep coming as long as they remain in the public spotlight.
