Kobe Bryant is one of the most influential athletes of all time, and he left a lasting impact not just on Los Angeles Lakers fans, but on many athletes around the world who grew up watching him play.
Players often wear No. 8 or 24 to honor Bryant, and many try to play their sport with the Mamba Mentality. Others honor Bryant with their gear choices, and that was seen on the field during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.
Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs wore a pair of custom Nike Kobe VII cleats in the team colors. They featured a white base color with a red sole and inside, along with a navy blue Nike check, accents and laces.

They were designed by famous footwear artist Mache, who donned them the “Olympic inspired” cleats.
Diggs had somewhat of a quiet game against the Broncos, as did all offensive players on both teams, due to the blizzard and strong defenses. He finished with just five catches for 17 yards on six targets, but his catch total was the highest for any player in the game.
Despite the lackluster offensive performance, the Patriots were still able to come away with a 10-7 win over the Broncos to secure their spot in Super Bowl LX.
It’s the 12th time in franchise history the Patriots have advanced to the Super Bowl, the most of any team in NFL history by four, and the first time for Diggs after falling short in his previous Championship Games.
The Patriots are expected to continue wearing their all-white uniforms in the Super Bowl, so it’s likely Diggs will once again be wearing his custom Nike Kobe 7 cleats.
On the NFC side, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams to advance as the NFC champions, making the 60th iteration of the Super Bowl a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX (49) when the Patriots defeated the Seahawks, 28-24.
Super Bowl 60 will be held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Sunday, Feb, 8.
Details on the Nike Kobe 7
The Nike Kobe 7 was originally released in 2011 and featured Nike’s signature Flywire materials, along with a polyurethane shell.
Designed by Eric Avar, the shoes introduced a modular system that allows the insole system to be changed for a choice between quick responsiveness insoles or enhanced cushioning and support insoles.
They were initially priced at $140 and remain popular as one of the most innovative shoes made.
