Luka Doncic set the Los Angeles Lakers’ single-season record for most made 3-pointers in the team’s win against the Miami Heat on Thursday.
Doncic surpassed D’Angelo Russell’s previous record of 226 and will get a chance to add to his total as the Lakers have 12 games remaining during the 2025-26 season. The other three players on the list are Austin Reaves, Nick Van Exel and Kobe Bryant.
Doncic is a high-volume 3-pointer shooter as he averages over 10 attempts a game, but it’s warranted as he shoots 36.6 percent from distance. However, Doncic has been even better after the All-Star break as he’s shooting over 40 percent from the 3-point line.
The Lakers superstar is on track to lead the league in scoring for the second time in his career and his outside shooting is a major factor as opposing defenses have no way to prevent him from getting shots up. Doncic is an elite three-level scorer that’s able to get to any spot on the floor, but he’s been particularly effective from beyond the arc as of late.
Los Angeles have been playing as good of basketball as anyone else in the league down the stretch and have firmly cemented themselves as a serious playoff threat. While Doncic’s offensive outbursts have propelled their success, he and the team as a whole have also been far more engaged and disciplined on the defensive end.
With the Lakers surging as the season quickly winds down, Doncic has firmly planted himself in the MVP conversation. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic are often cited as the front runners, but it’s impossible to ignore the numbers that Doncic is putting up.
Doncic scored 60 points in the win against Miami and while he won’t be asked to score that much to win games, it’s a reminder of how dangerous he can be once he’s in the zone.

Luka Doncic and LeBron James have each made history throughout the regular season by putting up gaudy box scores numbers. Against the Rockets, Doncic became the first player in league history to have a seven-game stretch compiling more than 250 points, 50 rebounds, 50 assists, 25 made 3-pointers while going undefeated.
Meanwhile, James became the oldest player in NBA history to score 30 or more points and shoot over 90 percent from the field. The previous record holder was Arvydas Sabonis at 36 years old when he was a member of the Portland Trail Blazers.
