Quentin Grimes was one of the first additions made in free agency by the Los Angeles Lakers and the guard is expected to play a big role on this team. He is also no stranger to playing alongside Luka Doncic as the two were previously teammates with the Dallas Mavericks.

And now that they are teammates once again, Grimes is excited about what they will be able to do together and says they have unfinished business to handle from their time in Dallas.

“Part two now, teaming up with Luka again,” Grimes said in a ‘Get to Know’ segment on Lakers YouTube. “We had a really good time in Dallas and it’s gonna be a lot of fun. We got unfinished business to take care of. Didn’t get to play a lot of games together, but when we did it was pretty special so excited to see what’s gonna happen this time in L.A. so stay tuned Lake Show.”

Grimes and Doncic were only teammates for a short while as he played just 47 games with the Mavericks in the 2024-25 season before he was traded away to the Philadelphia 76ers. Coincidentally, that trade came just two days after the shocking deal that sent Doncic to the Lakers, so both of their tenures in Dallas ended at practically the same time, although one was obviously a bit more of a big deal than the other.

Regardless Grimes went on to shine during his time with the 76ers while Doncic has maintained his superstar level with the Lakers. Grimes’ role in Dallas fluctuated as he averaged just 10.2 points in 22.8 minutes per game. However, it should be noted that he shot a career-best 39.8% from 3-point range on more than four attempts with the Mavericks so he is more than capable of providing that floor-spacing next to Doncic.

Now, they have come back together with the same goal of lifting this franchise back into championship contention and, ultimately, hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy. And if they maintain that chemistry they had in Dallas, they will push the Lakers closer to that goal.

Quentin Grimes calls it a ‘full-circle moment’ to join the Lakers

Despite being born and raised in Houston, Texas, Grimes actually grew up a fan of the Lakers as his father was a fan of the purple and gold. As such, Grimes believes it is a full-circle moment for him to sign with the Lakers this summer.
