Kevon Looney is one of numerous new additions to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer and he brings veteran, championship experience. Along with backing up Walker Kessler, the UCLA product should offer his teammates insight into what it takes to be a winning player.

Understand the need to build team chemistry with this new Lakers team, Luka Doncic held a minicamp in Slovenia to help expedite the process. Now that they have returned from overseas, Looney shared how his experience was in Ljubljana.

“It was great,” Looney said in an interview with ESPN LA. “I had an amazing time, I didn’t know what to expect going out there, but they laid out the red carpet for us. The golf was great, the food was great, the people was great. So, it was a great time.

“Yeah, we was on a boat. I’m not a big boat guy, but so we rode on a boat and everybody followed us from every stop. They got some die hard Lakers fans out there and it was amazing to see. Usually you don’t get to see guys until training camp really starts and so it’s a feeling out process trying to learn guys, learn guys’ personalities. So, we were able to come together in the summertime and really bond, especially when you going on an 11.5 hour flight, you really get to know each other. You get to see guys outside of the basketball court, how they act, how they move around and chemistry is big in our sport and the best teams that win usually have great chemistry. So, it was a great building block for us.”

In a situation like the Lakers are in, roster turnover can prompt uncertainty and no one knows what this team will ultimately look like. It is great to see Doncic trying to start that team chemistry process ahead of training camp.

While they did get together to play basketball, as Looney mentioned, everyone got a chance to know one another outside of the sport. Ultimately, it looks like the Lakers’ Slovenia trip was a success and hopefully, those vibes transfer into training camp and beyond.

Kevon Looney: Lakers willing to ‘run through wall’ for Luka Doncic

In Doncic’s short tenure with the Lakers, he has dealt with plenty of change, whether it be adjusting to a new team and surrounding, or getting to know new owners. Thankfully, he remains committed to being a Laker and this minicamp was his first act as the team’s leader.

Coming out of that minicamp, Looney gave a rave review of Doncic and his ability to lead this team.
