Players and fans alike often dream of the greatest players of different eras facing off against each other. These fantasy dream matches are great to think about and almost always include Los Angeles Lakers legends as the franchise has had so many of the greatest players in the history of the NBA.

But it isn’t just fans who think about this as current players often think about which legend of the past they would most want to play against if they could. And for Lakers superstar Luka Doncic, the answer is an obvious one.

“I think I would choose Michael Jordan,” Doncic told SLAM. “Because it’s an easy answer, but he was an incredible player, and honestly, I’d like to play against him.”

Doncic picking the player who is the greatest of all-time in the eyes of many makes complete sense and shows his competitive nature. The Lakers star wants to test himself against the absolute best and see where he stands and Jordan is that standard bearer.

How Doncic would do against a prime Jordan would be interesting to think about. Not only was Jordan an amazing offensive player, but he was also a top defender at his peak, being a first team All-Defense selection nine times in his career and leading the NBA in steals three times while also winning the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award in 1988.

Facing off against Jordan would test Doncic in every aspect of his game. He would have to be in the zone offensively to handle the athleticism and physicality Jordan brings on defense, but would also have to bring a defensive effort he isn’t necessarily known for just to make Jordan work on the offensive side. He will also have to be strong mentally as Jordan is a known trash talker, though Doncic is very much known to thrive when provoked verbally.

Doncic has the skills to hang with anyone who has stepped on an NBA floor in a 1-on-1 setting and him versus a prime Jordan would be must-watch for any fan of the game.

Cardinals coach compares tight end Trey McBride to Luka Doncic

Doncic is so talented that even those in other sports are finding ways to compare their athletes to what he does on the basketball court. Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur recently compared his star tight end Trey McBride and what he does on the football field to the Lakers star’s game on the court.
