Lakers News: Dwight Howard Becomes Youngest Player to 9,000 Rebounds

Dwight HowardWith his first rebound in the final regular season game, Dwight Howard became the youngest player in NBA history to record 9,000 rebounds. Howard surpassed Wilt Chamberlain, who was the previous record holder.

Howard recorded the milestone after rebounding his own miss on the first possession of the game tonight.

It’s been a tough season for Howard, who was coming off back surgery before having to deal with a shoulder injury that lingered throughout most of the year. Still, even with the physical ailments, Howard has averaged 17.1 points and 12.4 rebounds per game this season, while also leading the team in blocked shots (2.4) per game as well.

Howard has also been forced to step up and be a team leader since Kobe Bryant went down with an injury last week. Here’s what he had to say about taking the next step and leading the team into the playoffs.
